Thirty two deaths were reported, 49 persons were injured and 12 persons are reported missing due to the floods and rain affecting the country. More than 1,056,255 persons belonging to 282,953 families have been affected due to floods and heavy rain in Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee , Vavuniya and several other districts in the Central, North and East. More than 339,200 are currently housed in displaced camps, the Disaster Management Center said.
87,899 families have been sheltered in camps in Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kilinochchi and other Districts.
Unconfirmed reports say upto 9 people have died due to temperatures plummeting to 16C in Batticaloa and surrounding areas.
